Timothy A.C. Schober
Tim Schober has been practicing law in Victoria since 1980. Tim received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Victoria in 1976 and his Bachelor of Laws from Queens University in 1979.
With strong organizational and analytical skills and excellent negotiation skills, as well as a broad base of experience with a wide range of business issues, Tim’s specialty is in advising businesses and managing assets. He acts for a wide variety of business people, medical and dental professionals and filmmakers. Tim assists clients in the establishment of business relations and in solving problems with existing relationships. Tim has carried out many business purchases and sales, family trusts, employee profit sharing trusts, professional incorporations, real estate developments, lease negotiations, reorganizations and services agreements. In addition to relatively routine work, Tim assists clients with a wide range of custom solutions. These have included assisting several groups of physicians in creating and implementing new business structure through which to provide services to various Health Authority across BC; assisting a different group in a ground-breaking structure for providing professional services for a private imaging business that has opened the first private MRI facility in Victoria; negotiating a contract relating to province-wide job training services; helping a Vancouver Island retailer restructure its debt; working with a local manufacturer respecting the takeover of a U.S.-based competitor; assisting a secured creditor to realize on its security in a manner that maximized both recovery and preservation of jobs for almost 100 employees; and counseling venture capitalists on small cap investments.
Tim is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, as well as the Tax, Wills Trusts & Estates, Business Law, Real Estate and Entertainment Law subsections of the Canadian Bar Association. He is a guest lecturer and a contributing author to practice manuals for the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC, a guest instructor in Personal Property for the Professional Legal Training Course, and has been a sessional lecturer in Real Property at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law. Tim is a past director of the Rotary Club of Victoria Harbourside. He was a director on the Board of the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC for six years between 2001 and 2007, and served as the Society's Treasurer. Tim has been on the board of several non-profit organizations, and was most recently Vice-Chair of CHOICES Futures and Families Society of BC (a non-profit adoption agency).
