Max Durando

Max Durando obtained his law degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1995. He has been practicing since 1996, and since 2002 in Victoria.

Max's preferred area of practice is personal injury law, and he has brought many hundreds of injury claims to resolution. Max’s strengths include his organizational skills, his practical outlook, and his understanding of every side in a dispute. His six years’ experience in working for ICBC has given him an insider’s knowledge of how injury claims are defended. Max handles all kinds of injury claims, from whiplash to catastrophic losses. He routinely acts for people with permanent disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and debilitating chronic pain.

Max serves as a Governor of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC (TLABC). He previously served two terms on the Executive of TLABC, and has served on the Rules and Membership committees as well. He was President of the Cariboo Bar Association from 2000 to 2001, and Treasurer of the Prince George Bar Association from 1998 to 2000. Max was awarded the Malcolm J. McKinnon Award in law school, given by his fellow students in recognition of his selfless support to them. He belongs to the Victoria Bar Association and Canadian Bar Association. He is a life member of Phi Delta Phi, the international legal fraternity.

Max is committed to his community. He volunteered as a CRD Park Warden for three years, on a weekly basis, year round. He has volunteered his time doing set work in community theatre productions. His personal pursuits have led to memberships in numerous recreational clubs involved in such things as Nordic skiing, cycling, motorcycling, boating, badminton, Ultimate Frisbee, softball, touch football, river kayaking, flying, fencing and curling. Max belongs to Mensa Canada. He has been a continuous sponsor of underprivileged children through Foster Parents Plan for over 25 years. He has made over 85 blood donations so far with Canadian Blood Services, and is aiming to reach 100.

Max worked in the energy sector before turning to law. He earned a diploma from BCIT in Petroleum Technology in 1984, and a post-graduate diploma in Energy Management (Honours) from SAIT in 1987. He finished first in his class at SAIT, and was awarded the Province of Alberta Certificate of Merit. He worked as an engineering technologist in the areas of oil well drilling and geophysical exploration for a total of six years. Max feels that his technical background assists him in approaching legal problems in a structured and logical manner, allowing for better analysis and better solutions.
